Doris Duke was a lifelong environmentalist with a keen interest in conservation and horticulture. At Duke Farms in New Jersey, Ms Duke created elaborate greenhouse display gardens reflecting the culture and environments of eleven regions of the world. She donated the gardens and land to the Duke Gardens Foundation, Inc and opened them to the public in 1964.
On May 25th, 2008, at the discretion of her Trustees, Doris Duke's legacy Indoor Display Gardens at Duke Farms, New Jersey, will be closed and their collections disbanded. The greenhouses will be used as storage while an orchid house is renovated. The scenes that you see in our pictures will be gone.
This group is a resource for people who want her Trustees to preserve Doris Duke's Indoor Gardens as part of their environmental education mission. Additional information is available at www.savedukegardens.org .
