Every weekend, we'll post a photographic assignment of some sort. You will have until the following weekend to post your best photo from that assignment. Photos posted must have been taken during the assignment week.
For Saturday Setup #7, the assignment is Post Processing (Orton).
The Orton techique was initially developed using slide film. 2 images taken (both slightly overexposed and 1 deliberately out of focus) are sandwiched together to give a dreamy glowing effect. This technique lends itself very well to digital photography. A concise explanation of the technique and how to achieve it can be found here http://www.naturephotographers.net/articles0106/dw0106-1.html Flickr also has several groups devoted to the technique.
For this week's assignment, decide on a topic - (the orton effect lends itself beautifully to portraits, but can be equally effective on a wide range of subjects) - take some pics, then sit down with your editor program and get to work. Any image editing software that handles layers and filters can be used. Experiment with different degrees of blur , blending and opacity and post your best image.
ASSIGNMENT DETAILS:
- This week, if you are unfamiliar with the Orton effect, read up about it.
- Take some pix and apply the effect.
- Post your best photo from the assignment here by Sunday, October 14.
