About San Jose's City Forest
If you live in San Jose, you don't need to go as far as Yosemite or even the Santa Cruz mountains to visit a forest with more than a million trees. Just step outside your front door and you're walking in one--San Jose's City Forest. Every tree in the city helps make up the urban forest. This group celebrates the beauty of San Jose's urban forest by showcasing amazing pictures of San Jose's trees.
What does your urban forest do for you?
1) Saves Energy - A single mature tree provides the cooling equivalent of 10 room-size air conditioners running 20 hours per day. -U.S. Department of Agriculture
2) Cools Hot Cities - The collective effect of trees reduces city temperatures 3-10 degrees -U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
3) Is Good For Your Health - Trees filter air contaminants, giving us cleaner air to breathe. They also provide protection from harmful sunrays and create feelings of relaxation and well-being.
4) Increases Property Values - Houses on tree-lined streets command prices 21% higher than those in more barren areas -Management Information Services/ICMA
5) Makes Your City Beautiful - Trees provide us with colors, flowers, and beautiful shapes, forms and textures.
Our City Forest, a 501(c)3 organization, has proudly been growing and caring for San Jose's urban forest since 1994. To date, we've mobilized over 100,000 community volunteers to help us plant and care for more than 40,000 shade trees throughout the city.
