I'll get us started:
I've never really had a thing for Rolls Royces but the Franklin Mint Rolls Royce Corniche model really made me realize how beautiful they really are. Just like the real car, the model is hand made the utmost care and attention to detail. The only downside is cost. The model is limited to 2500 copies worldwide and costs upwards of $140.

I'm looking into purchasing a Franklin Mint Callaway C12. Like other Franklin Mint models, the model is made to a very high standard and is limited to 599 pieces worldwide. The models comes with a set of cotton gloves for handling the model and a certificate of authenticity signed by Reeves Callaway.

I would love to have one of these Minichamps McLaren F1 models! I believe they made less than 1500 of them and they sell for nearly $1,000 in online auctions. It's 1/12 scale and incredibly detailed. It even comes with miniture McLaren luggage pieces!
I've looked into buying this awesome Ferrari F40 from Kyosho too. I like how it's custom painted all black.
Autoart is my personal favorite model brand (though I don't have any) and this is the one I want in particular... 1/18 Lancia Fulvia HF
And lastly, this is pretty sick too...

I collect Mustang model cars but also buy anything interesting. along the way.
@Dylan, Minichamps McLaren F1s sell on ebay for around $350. You could even find a mint one out of its package for hundreds less.
They'res even one for $20 if you're willing to invest some time and labor

There are only two problems I can find with big model cars: the suspension height is too high and the hinges for the doors/trunks/hoods are too unrealistic. But I don't know as much on the matter as you guys. I have a couple of Bburagos, is that a good company? I also have a 1:18 Murcielago (first-gen), which is pretty realistic.
Posted 8 months ago.

^ Bburago is pretty good. I've got a 1/18 Dodge Viper model kit from Bbruago and I like it very much. Also the reason why you think 1/18 cars hinges are unrealistic is probably because you have Bburago's. AutoArt has pretty realistic hinges. Especially the Koenigsegg, it got gas-lifts and they look very complicated.

^^In my opinion, Bburago is okay but I've seen better at the price. Most Bbragos are around $30-$45 and I've seen many second hand Kyoshos at that price.

Bburagos were a high class brand in the 1980's and1990's but they went bankrupt in the early 21st century. The ones that were made during this period were highly detailed and are pretty valuable ($20-$50). They used a lot of stickers, but otherwise they were nice looking models and they were built from lightweight materials.
In 2005, Maisto acquired Bburago and the quality has been drastically reduced. Modern Bburagos are cheaper versions of Maisto models made for sale in the low quality market.
I have a Bburago EB110 from the 90s that's fairly nice!

^The only thing I dislike about the older Bbragos is the plastic that they are made from. They look nice but when you feel the model, it does not have a quality feel to it. They're almost like model kits.

As far as model cars go, you dont need to buy a $200 brand name car to get great quality and detail. I understand that as of right now Yat Ming's Road Signature doesnt have the best reputation. Many people have had a terrible time with their cars being broken, chipped, and other major flaws. However i have been lucky with my two 1/18 scale Yat Mings. Each ran me about $20 but are loaded with details and spot on they are. My 1970's Jaguar E-Type has zero flaws and the details are incredible, including the felt floor carpeting.
Recently i made possibly the best purchase for a model car i have ever done.
The 1963 Cadillac model is very well made, and is VERY heavy. It is made by Jada Toys and is packed with detail. The paint job is incredibly shiney and has a mirror finish. Lots of chrome. And for only $12, its the best deal youll ever find.

Aside from larger car models, most of us here are all too familiar with smaller 1/64 toy cars. Do you guys collect any of the smaller 1/64 diecast cars?
Beginning in 2008, I bought my first couple hot wheels specifically to keep in their packages. To this day, I still have these along with about 80 more Hot Wheels in packages. I usually buy these on appeal, not series or anything and buy about 40 cars a year.

^I wouldn't buy it if I were you. The model is probably some Chinese brand that looks okay but totally falls apart once you pick it up. The model is probably like the quality of models made by Maisto which are acceptable but not good enough.
I I were to get my Dad a model of a car, I would build one out of a model kit or save up for one of the really good ones. Although many of us can't afford to pay $100 for a model car, some careful eBay shopping could land a model for about half the retail price.

^^ I have a Maisto and will never buy one again! My 1949 Ford Convertible has:
-an undesirable "orange peel" finish to the paint
-crappy plastic chrome trim that barely fits with the body
-opening doors that don't fit with the door jambs
-whitewall tires that are all messed up
I plan on getting rid of this one as soon as possible!
If you really want a nice model, try Franklin Mint. Those things are pieces of art and come at a reasonable price on the secondary market.

^Maistos are good for the price point. The models have "orange peel" paint and plastic interiors which could be done better but are acceptable. However, I feel that a museum's collection should be higher end. After all, the reason we go to museums is to see things we don't have right?
