I've come across so many depictions of Saint Sebastian on Flickr, I thought it was high time we had a group!
The earliest depiction of St. Sebastian is a mosaic from around 682. It shows an adult bearded man in court dress but contains no arrows. It wasn't until the Renaissance that he was first shown as a youth pierced by arrows. In 367 a basilica which was one of the seven chief churches of Rome was built over his grave. The present church in Rome was completed in 1611 by Scipio Cardinal Borghese . At the shrine of St Sebastian is a statue of the dying saint by Antonio Giorgetti, one of Bernini's pupils. It may have been made after a drawing by Bernini himself.
There are literally hundreds of Sebastian images around the world, so let's put them here!
