About Scott A Dixon memorial award for originality.

Data is data. Any idiot can manage data now days. Data is like the industrial revolution; a stepping stone to a more refined and perfected process. We are awash in data and with the printing press and now the internet we have ubiquitous access to it. Currently, however, we are finally moving beyond mere record keeping. When we apply originality, that mental process still inaccessible to computers, in concert with the informational capability that computers have long since outpaced humanity with we form an awesome machine capable of power and beauty beyond any before imagined.
These days it is the utmost sign of stupidity to be obsessed by data and "measurability." From CEOs to politicians any person who sets out to perform a task with their eye on some gauge is an idiot who has failed to grasp the greater power of their own imagination. They become confused by the tiny little keyhole their numbers supply and cannot fully model their problems in the sophistication and complexity only available to our childhood world-making powers. What a capability it is to hold an entire problem in a modeled reality that is elastic and capable of being rearranged, sectioned, and recoloured to aid in simulating various affects and the results of input over time and in a chaotic system. These are the operations that only a person who thinks, feels, and understands a problem can perform. Those who cannot activate their minds beyond the data are forever limited to be less capable then antiquated computers and no more useful than an abacus.
The Scott A Dixon memorial award is given to photographs that exhibit a particular ability by the photographer to think and create original images. Everybody who presses the shutter button "creates" but this award is for those who press the button while thinking in a beautiful space and who's mind has entered the frame along with the creative light that is available to us all.
