I'm planning a retro shoot inspired by the Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie spread done a couple years ago in W (see link below).

Does anyone have any ideas for some cool retro spots, buildings, anything that might work with this concept? Obviously I won't be shooting in a house, but maybe someplace cool, modern and accessible would work...I'm mostly going for the feel of the clothes and make-up than anything else. There won't be a male model either, just one female...

Rick's Deserts on K St., perhaps?

Sorry I don't have any ideas for that but just the mention of Rick's Dessert Diner makes my mouth water. They have the best pie in town. If you don't get any good shots, at least you'll have some great dessert.

Gunther's has that nostalgic feeling, or Vic's Ice Cream

Thanks for the ideas, I'm actually looking for something with a more modern feel. I found this place called the Bateson Building on 9th & P, but I haven't checked to see if you can shoot there.

What I'm really looking for is that cool modern IKEA kind of vibe...but I can't do a shoot in IKEA, can I? ; ]

Any other ideas?

Teresa -

The Bateson Building is a State-owned building. I would assume you would need to go through DGS to get permission to shoot on the premises. You could try talking directly with the Building Manager, sometimes they can be more helpful.

For new and modern, you might consider approaching the SMUD building's managment.

LOL, when you put this up, THAT's exactly what I was thinking of...IKEA. That would be a riot.

Why not Ikea?

Maybe they'll let you in early. Couldn't hurt to ask the manager.

Sorry, I'm a little late to the party... You might try posting your request on Yelp's talk boards. I know there are a couple of mid-century modern home owners on there that might be able to hook you up with a house not unlike one in the W shoot.
