About saarinen

Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was an innovative architect whose diverse, exuberant and theatrical designs were considered superficial by his critics at the same time as they attracted a hugely influential group of clients. Saarinen died tragically early at the age of 51. He left a towering body of work in both the built environment and in his furniture designs, some of it completed after his death. His Tulip and Womb chairs are the very essence of mid century modern and have been in continuous production since the 1950s.

Many of his most famous and infuential buildings are 20th-century icons; the Trans World Airlines Terminal at JFK, the General Motors Technical Center, the United States Jefferson National Expansion Memorial a.k.a. the St Louis Gateway Arch and the Dulles International Airport Terminal outside Washington, D.C.
