Hi Everybody,

People have posted about similair gadgets before, but I thought it might be interest to share some shots about and from a wide-angle converter I got from the car-boot sale yesterday for a fiver.

I don't think its designed specifically for the Fuji - perhaps a video camera - but it's got a 46mm thread and works ok.

Converter On The S5700:

Note the bulk, subtle colour, and lack of filter thread.

Comparison shot:
Wide Angle Converter / Normal Comparison

The top photo is the usual Fuji wide-angle, the bottom the "useable" area of the converter, achieved by adding a little zoom, or you could crop in post. Note the colour cast, probably fixable in-camera with a custom white ballance, or again in post. Or just make b & w's.

Shot at full wide-angle:
Gosport Bus Station. (Full Wide Angle)

Shot cropped to 16x9 ratio in post:

Black & White HDR:
Gosport Ferry Pontoon

Shot taken from about 3" above the beach:

I was really surprised at the difference this little (!) converter made - it's not just a gimic, I think there's some great potential here. OK, it's not the sharpest, and there's a definite colour cast, but keep your eye's peeled to see if you can pick one up cheap on eBay or at your local car-boot sale.

Cheers, Rob.

Í think that it's a great accessoire! The color cast has its own feeling, a bit like film shots. Unfortunately the usable area is not that big as it seems, still a good effect for a five quid buy.

One thing I'll be trying is to use the converter at the full wide-angle (including the vignetting and distortion), then using post processing to remove that barrel distortion - (thanks for the idea Victor).

Cheers, Rob.
