About Rutland Water

This group is for any photos of Rutland Water.

Rutland Water in the East midlands of England, is a surface water storage for Anglian Water. The water to fill it is pumped from the Welland and Nene rivers.

When it was built it had the largest surface area for a man made lake in Europe and covers 10% of the County of Rutland.

The reservoir was planned in the 1960's and despite local opposition the construction of the dam began in 1971, the filling of the reservoir began in 1975 and it was full by March 1979.

Landscaped by Dame Slivia Crow, Rutland water now provides many different leisure activities, nature reserve and water for the area.
