About Round Tower Churches

For images of round tower churches to display the architecture of the buildings and towers.

DESCRIPTION & GUIDELINES

The images should show the exterior of the church building/tower. The focal point of the picture should be the church and/or tower. The images must show a significant proportion of the whole building and/or tower.

If there is demand to show interiors of the churches then a separate group can be set-up.

Edited extracts from the Round Tower Churches Society web page:

Round tower churches are mostly found in England, in beautiful East Anglia. They are often over 1000 years old and built in Saxon times.

The Society knows of about 185 round tower churches which were built using the traditional techniques. In East Anglia there are 120 in Norfolk, 42 in Suffolk, 7 in Essex, and 2 in Cambridgeshire. Other round tower churches are found in Southern England in Sussex and Berkshire.

Germany has evidence of 20 round tower churches. Mostly 12th century and quite similar to those in East Anglia. Other countries with have at least one round tower church are Andorra, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Norway, Poland and South Africa.

Why round towers?

The pool should show straightforward photography so no negatives, heavy manipulations, light experiments, mosaics, montages, collages, computer graphics, elaborate or decorative borders (borderless preferred), large titles (no titles preferred) or drawings/paintings.

Images that don't fit the guidelines will be removed from the pool. If one of your images has disappeared you may find the explanation in the group description above. If you don't understand why your image has been removed please contact one of the admins by Flickr e-mail.
