Over the last couple years the city of Harrisonburg, VA, best known for housing James Madison University, has become quite the little beer town. Harrisonburg's Historic Downtown boasts multiple bars and restaurants that have embraced the attention to detail, diversity of flavor, and uniqueness that is the foundation of the micro-brew movement.

Considering that, it’s kind of odd that this spring will be the city’s first beer festival, but it’s shaping up right. Thirty true-blue American micros from across the country have signed on for the festival’s “quality over quantity” approach. National names like Stone and Dogfish, as well as local favorites, and GABF darlings, Blue Mountain and Devil’s Backbone are just a few. The only rule for participation is a respect for the art of brewing and the belief that it’s more important to make a handful ecstatic rather than merely quenching a bucketful.

The Hackensaw Boys, Snarky Puppy, Yarn, and Larry Keel and the Natural Bridge will be cranking out the jams as the beer flows. Each act brings a different musical feel covering bluegrass, Americana, rock, and a touch of punk, but will keep the crowds entertained and dancing just the same.
All that goodness will be packed into the Turner Pavilion in the heart of Downtown Harrisonburg, walking distance from all those great restaurants and entertainment spots. So mark Saturday April 23rd on your calendar with a big star and make sure you find your way to the Turner Pavilion between 2:30-8:00 PM. Proceeds benefit Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance.
