I am thrilled about this one - where I live is a great motivator for my photography. I've already titled one 'why I live where I live'. There's something great around every corner.

Brilliant!
Remember to tag your photo's and post them in this thread.
Another idea I had was that if you've got an idea for a photo, and maybe you've taken one but aren't happy with it and think you could make it better, post it anyway and ask for thoughts.
Perhaps we could also add short descriptions about the photo's too.
As soon as we get a few submissions I'll start an invite-only pool so we can put the pics in one place where we can easily see them all together.
The only technical consideration is that you either post, or keep a copy of, the full-resolution version of the photo's, so that when we come to do the photo-book we've got the big files.
Now what am I going to shoot first.....

You're right Rob, this IS going to be good! Count me in.
Good idea to include 'work in progress' photos for discussion. It will make the journey much more interesting and focused, and more importantly, educational for us all. This is far better than to 'dump' 12 images at the end of the year.

Right, had to pop into Gosport Town Centre today, so took a quick wander through the ferry Gardens. There's always an interesting view over to Portsmouth, so I took a few shots, trying to work out angles, etc.
Anyway, I came away with three images that I quite like, but are really just test shots, ideas to build on.
1. Dreamer

It's out of focus and blurred, but I like it. Kinda talks to me about the weather we have here.
2. Spinaker Tower

Looks better big.
Costing millions, the Spinaker tower wasn't finished for the Millenium as originally planned, but its still a great addition to the harbour. Looks a bit small in this shot though. I only fired off a few shots before the Sun disapeared, to leave the tower in shade. I'd like to get a similair shot, but with dramatic clouds in the background.
3. Brick Paving In Sunlight

Gosport is covered in this stuff....
Right, now I want to photograph some local people....

I'm in. :) GREAT idea and I'd love to do this. 12 photos is a tough challenge, to narrow it down to such a small number. This will be awesome. What a great concept.

Initially I thought this would be too predictable as it's the most famous building in Elgin. I changed my mind. It's a fabulous ruin with a colourful history and I have to include this. I will probably go back here several times this year before choosing which shot of it I want to use.

Few, OK, got a shot of a person today, its a start, but I'm not happy with the crop, composition and processing (!), and if definitely looks better big.
4. Sheila, Dog Walker, At Fort Brockhurst.

Can't wait to see what some of the guys and girls who know more about portraits come up with, and to hear their advice!
Cheers, Rob.

Count me in as well. Was listening to your podcast and was really happy to hear how centered on the art it is and not the tech. Going to be fun getting 12 images of Stockholm even thoughi was born in San Diego. Might as well get started right away. There are a couple things I was thinking about changing, I think there is a halo around the tower and I might do away with the frame alltogether. What do you guys think?

Hello! I've been away for like half a year or something, but am finally starting to get back into taking shots and editing and stuff- i've just been so busy with school etc. And this seems like a really cool assignment to start anew with :) So here's my first one, taken on the massive snow day today :)

Hope you like it :)

Some good shots already here. If nobody objects, I would like to broaden my "where I live" to Morayshire rather than just Elgin. I get a bit more scope and I'm Moray born and bred so it really is home. If that's ok, this is my latest. When people think of the north of Scotland they often think of snow and sheep, lol. Killed two birds with one stone here:

Nice! You may want to use exposure compensation to over-expose to make the snow a bit whiter, or play with the levels in post.

Ok, thanks, taken your advice and brightened the snow ever so slightly. The trouble I have with the levels is either the barrels go too dark or the sky becomes hard to distinguish from the snow. Perhaps b&w? I'll play around, I've still got 11 months!

Hi all. Here is my first for this assignment. I have taken a number of shots of this subject during the week of snow, each in a different composition. I'm still to upload a few more. Not sure which is the best one, but I do like this version.

I really think that this is an excellent idea. I would like to submit my first picture for this assignment. It is an iconic train bridge for my area which sits about 5 minutes drive from my house. It crosses the Oldman River near Lethbridge, Alberta in Canada.
