Technique Challenge 1 : No Sky Landscapes!
 |
Hi all, was thinking today about doing a monthly technique challenge - where we decide on a style / composition / technique that we haven't tried before, then have to come up with 3 pics in that style.
This is NOT a replacement for the theme assignments, rather something that runs at the same time.
I usually take most of my photo's in the middle of the day - difficult when the Sun is bright (depite my best efforts with HDR!) - so I thought we could try and break away from our horizons for a month and take three "No Sky Landscapes".
They don't have to be of the countryside. Urban, seascapes, etc are fine, just as long as its a view of some sort of landscape with no sky in it! Croppping is ok, as long as there was no sky in the frame in the first place!
So, three shots, any editing, closing date 14/08/08, post images on this thread, have fun!
Edit: No end date, lets leave these technique challenges open so as people join our group they can take part.
Cheers, Rob.
ps this is sort of an example:

Here's my second, bit of an abstract, taken at a local pond (looking down obviously!), then turned to b&w.

this is really good :) was the exposure higher when you took it, or did you change it in photoshop?

I used the b&w adjustment layer in Photoshop with the green filter preset, or you could use the channels mixer, I'll do a post on the blog about it soon.

I only recently found your podcast Rob, and I am learning alot. Like you, my family obligations prevent me from shooting as often as I would like. Today, I was able to make some pictures, and I think that they fit with the theme of this thread.

Greetings! Like svantland, I also just recently found your podcast and am enjoying immensely. Over the last few weeks, I have finally gotten together that I like to fit the theme. Thanks again for the podcast!
EDIT: Correct size images. Thanks for the tip!

Nice shots Gimli! I like the frost on the fence - unusual angle!
Post images in medium size - go to the photo page, click "all sizes", then "medium", then copy and paste the html below the picture.
Well done guys!

Ah, thanks, I was wondering how to do that. (I'm rather new to Flickr, as well).
