03 Mar 09 - The first photos submitted are fabulous -- exactly what I'm looking for. I want this group to show what the experience of traveling (mainly by car) in the US was like early in the 20th century: old cars, bad roads (and some good ones), tourist cabins, picnics, etc. I'll take other vacation photos (other countries, travel by train, vacationing at the beach) because that's part of the story. No modern photos of "old" tourist places, please, and no ephemera other than real photo postcards.

About Roadtrip Pioneers: Travel Before 1950

This is about traveling in the first half of the 20th century. I'll take photos of travel by train, but the real focus is on the pioneering automobile travelers, back in the days when travel was REALLY an adventure. Not just no freeways, but in a lot of cases, no paved roads. The tourist infrastructure either didn't exist or was very primitive -- at the best, tourist cabins.

The photos should clearly indicate traveling -- no stock shots of old cars or family members posed with no background. I'd like to see shots from the first half of the 20th century of cars on the road, families eating picnics in the country, tourist cabins, fixing flat tires, etc.

I am so pleased with how this group has gone. The photos are fabulous. My respect for our pioneer roadtrip travelers has grown immeasurably

Please, no contemporary shots of old tourist facilities (gas stations, tourist cabins, etc.) Also, no ephemera (travel post cards, etc.), please, just actual photos. Photo post cards are ok, as are found photos, as long as they're unquestionably pre-1950.
