About RIP - Razing Ireland's Past (Heritage in Peril)
Ireland has one of Europe's richest historical, architectural and cultural heritages which is gradually perishing through ignorance, neglect or political opportunism. If some of the past destruction was due to the continuous strife of invasions, rebellion, civil wars and arson, much has been caused also by the reverting of fortunes and economic uphevals which also added to the loss of memory.
The group welcomes not just pictures of "romantic ruins" but buildings threatened by neglect or just by the ignorance of the planning and local authorities - the disfiguring of ancient parklands by golf courses or the encroaching of road-widening or motorways which threaten memorial houses or historic estates in town and country.
We are not concerned just with grand houses but also with traditional cottages and the ever changing state of rural areas, blighted by new developments and haphazard planning consent granted by local authorities.
Please join in the effort to bring to preserve buildings or sites under threat.
