About REV 1
4/6/2011 - "REV 1" is a new group for beginning to advanced amateur photographers who want to receive detailed feedback on their images before they post them to the wider flickr audience. The intent is for this to be a "pre-posting" group where members can exchange comments and advice that will help them polish their photographic skills and make their image the best it can be. A primary goal of the group is to create an environment where every comment is substantive and helpful. Here is how this will be achieved:
Images (originals and pre-final revisions) posted to REV 1 should not be posted any other groups on flickr. Post to other groups only when you consider your image as "final". Images submitted to REV 1 that already have awards or that have been posted to other groups will not be accepted.
Revisions should be numbered and comments should identify whether they are referring to the original image or a particular revision, unless it is obvious.
Once you are satisfied with your revisions and have posted your final version elsewhere, earlier versions will be deleted from the REV 1 pool. The expectation is that the average life of an image on REV 1 will probably be pretty short ... maybe a week or two at the most.. Members are encouraged to post their original and final images together in the discussion section so that we can see how effective the group's advice has been. A topic has already been set up for this purpose.
When you comment on an image you like, please try to articulate exactly what gives it its appeal. And if you think there are ways to improve an image, be specific in your critique. Some factors to consider include exposure, focus, depth-of-field, composition, color accuracy, saturation, mood, viewer impact, resolution and level of detail, perspective, balance, creativity, artistic elements, cropping, sharpness, and editing techniques.
Members should keep in mind that photography is sometimes very subjective, and that critiques are just opinions. If you receive critical comments that you don't agree with, take a look at that member's photostream. Often, that will tell you whether the advice is something you should take to heart.
Please avoid only posting comments like "nice image" or "beautiful shot" that don't provide helpful information.
Although this group is geared toward helping amateur photographers, professionals (i.e., paid photographers) are encouraged to join and help mentor less experienced photographers, but to post sparingly.
