Group Description

The Shadow Cats started this Op'ra sh*t after one drunken night of Repo! Karaoke. A small group of strangers, clad in gentern masks, side-boob revealing shirts and black eyeshadow got together to celebrate the film by participating in the after-screening activities the Bloor Cinema hosted during the week-long November run. After a few hilarious (and, in typical karaoke fashion, rather terrible) renditions of "Zydrate Anatomy", "Seventeen" and "Genetic Emancipation", this group came up with the ultimate fan idea.

"Wouldn't it be cool if we did a shadow cast for Repo!?"

The magic happened from there. With only a month to wait for the next Toronto run at the Bloor Cinema and the holiday season in full swing, the cast had very little time to prepare for an ambitious project. To add to the challenge, none of the cast owned a screener copy of the film as the DVD would not available for another month and a half. The odds were against them, but they were dedicated.

After only three weeks worth of rehearsals in cramped living rooms and seedy alleyways using only the soundtrack, Youtube clips and pure memory, The Shadow Cats were able to perform an 11-song show for excited Toronto Repo! fans. Terrance Zdunich (writer/Graverobber) was in attendance when the Shadow Cats made history as Repo!'s first ever shadow cast performance.

The Shadow Cats continue to perform monthly at the Bloor Cinema. Much like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", they also wish to make the "Repo! experience" a cult tradition that will last for many years to come.
