12 Feb 08 - Welcome fellow Luddites. We hope you enjoy interacting and sharing in this community of fellow backwards-minded individuals that value the odd, the old and the obsolete.

Please feel free to invite others you believe may share our affinity for past treasures and traditions. By inviting others who may remember some of what we've already forgotten, we can serve as a modest photographic record and repository of knowledge, culture and technology.

Looking backwards,
Grendl Xavier

About Reluctant Luddites

This is a group for those individuals who cherish (cling to) the past and ways of doing things in the past. Not necessarily because it was better; but because by forgetting, we lose part of the human experience and a piece of our collective, accumulated knowledge.

It may sound high-minded, but it's really just about using redundant film and equipment (e.g. glass plates and pinhole optics), using antiques in everyday life (when you could be using something plastic) and practicing vanishing customs. With every technological step forward, things and practices that were once common become endangered.

If you've ever reached for a fountain pen instead of a ballpoint, a typewriter when a laptop was handy, or if you know and remember the joy of darkroom chemicals, you belong here.

Feel free to post anything you feel would fit; we do not anticipate that it will be necessary to remove inappropriate images, but like any curmudgeonly Luddite, we will - without hesitation.

We hope you enjoy interacting and sharing in this community of fellow backwards-minded individuals that value the odd, the old and the obsolete. Perhaps we can serve as a modest photographic record and repository of knowledge, culture and technology. Collectively, our active practice of the forgotten may provide a living memory too vital to forget.

Enjoy!
