About Red for the People of Burma
This group is for all of us who want to continue showing our support for the people of Burma and similar situations across the world.
In September 2007 the world was outraged by the military junta's actions in Burma: killing unarmed monks and civilians peacefully protesting against the hardships imposed by the government.
An appeal went out to wear red shirts on Friday the 28th of September (2007) to show support for the people of Burma. Red was chosen to echo the Buddhist monks' clothing, the monks being the ones who started the protests.
You do not need an invitation to post your pictures in this group, but we do ask that you read the rules first. Please post pictures that CLEARLY contain the color red or orange! Orange is also accepted, as the color of the monks robes is usually reddish orange. (No nudity, porn, profanity).
Lack of democracy unfortunately occurs not only in Burma. As a pro-democracy-group we welcome pictures from any region peacefully striving for democracy. Please make sure the picture and/or text contains information about the situation and that red or orange is clearly visible.
The group has a moderation queue and we try to process the pictures as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or post your thoughts/questions in a thread, although we kindly ask not to start a discussion topic, if one already exists. Thank you.
If you feel this group is making an important statement, please invite all your friends to show their support as well! You find instructions on how to do this in the discussion threads.
Welcome!
