About reactive environments
this group is intended to document the progress of and current developments in reactive environments (a.k.a.: ubiquitous computing, pervasive computing, ambient intelligence, and everyware.) using images and video of people interacting with their environment without the use of traditional methods.
that's a pretty broad statement, but it's a pretty broad spectrum of media and technology that will be colliding to shape the future of human-computer interaction so it seems fitting.
the prediction was made that ubicomp would become reality in 2010ish... so ya'll better get crackin'.
pre wikipedia:
ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is a post-desktop model of human-computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities. As opposed to the desktop paradigm, in which a single user consciously engages a single device for a specialized purpose, someone "using" ubiquitous computing engages many computational devices and systems simultaneously, in the course of ordinary activities, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so.
