About Rephotography.

PLEASE READ cause this group IS curated.

Re-photographing off of the television screen or the film screen so that an aesthetic of the video/film look is maintained and thus celebrated. Submit phots of film/tv stills that are necessarily abstracted by the fact that they are second generation (third....) and don't make a pretense of disguising that fact, but rather let it into the new photo and are working with re-composition as well. Not just portraits, but tweaked ones.

Think analogue video work or aged film. Think real film scratches and dust. The actual superimpositions in the film itself, not created by you. Think Nam June Paik or Stan Brakhage. Think post-processing and scan lines and tweakage. You don't have to go crazy, it can be wonderfully subtle as well - we would like to see the original through the abstraction - but lets appreciate the real involved, as opposed to the HD digital slickness of the hyperreal descending upon us.

Since we are curating, perhaps it would help to say that a "film-still", within this group at least, should act (a la Cindy Sherman) as a narrative unto itself, meaning that with this single image, a story should be told/referenced; a stand-alone image should be conjured; a face should sink ships or suck in planets. Intentional grab, not messy randomness. Don't just re-produce /document a film, make a stand-alone image from it where everyone can recognize the film... there are other groups for that.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a "guess what film this is from" group, nor is it a group merely for grabs from your favourite films.... or a cataloguing of your fave stars.
