"Large" scale Re-ment Miniatures
|
Re-ment has lately been making miniatures of larger scale (like 1:6). I can see how the larger scale would work well for some people for their dollies.
But for me it does not. I already have tons of re-ment that are smaller. The newer stuff looks out of place and doesn't fit.
I love the smaller scale so much better. Something so miniature and detailed is what makes them special and collectible. The larger are like something from Barbie.
Furthermore, items from same carton are all different scale. Some sets have large scale while some are small. It is inconsistent. That isn't anything new but it seems worse now. It seems like re-ment have been doing things differently now. Like when they started making less sets per carton (8 instead of 10), they changed many other things too including scale.

Smart spoting all these new policys of re-ment, I do think original 1:12 or 1:10 scale is much better, and the actual miniatures look much realistic compare to those now...
e.g. What people comepare is the Spanish Seafood rice in European Cuisine 2003 set with the European Grandmother set 2007.
Um... I guess they produce sets of 8 instead of sets of 10... Due to the fact that those miniatures have turned to bigger size of 1:6... Which means more plastics are used, so they limit the sets to 8.
Conclusion:
- Sets of 8 (instead of 10) is okay as long as the designs are good
- But 1:12 is better than 1:6, since more realistic
- Too much sweets or deserts these days, more cuisine or cook food would be great...

I don't mean to sound argumentative, but I really, really like the larger scale they are using, even if it isn't always uniform. I want Re-Ment for use with my (ok, my daughter's) Barbie dolls, and while it is true you can find food and dishes made by Mattel for use with Barbies, is is usually terrible; poorly molded in one piece in one single color, which is usually horribly wrong - as unrealistic as it is possible to get! Beautiful and realistic 1:12 scale dollhouse items are available from tons of makers. I know they can get expensive, and the joy of Re-Ment is the price, but I think that Re-Ment fills a real need in the market when they make their sets in 1:6 scale, and I hope they keep it up. Obviously they are trying to cut corners and reduce costs, but I am a little confused about 1:12 being more 'realistic' than 1:6. The molds for the paella in the 2003 set are different than the ones in European Grandmother, and that is why it looks different - it isn't made from the same molds expanded up a uniform percentage. They could make the European Grandmother paella just as realistic as the 2003 Gourmet set, but I think cost is an issue now. It doesn't seem like a valid argument to say I want them to be more realistic, so I want them to go back to 1:12 scale - Whatever they would make in 1:12 now would probably reflect the same cost cutting that is apparent in the 1:6 scale items. My 2 cents....

Which re-ment sets are 1:12 scale?
All of my re-ment seems to match and it is all 1:6 scale. You can get dollhouse scale items anywhere, including lots of amazing artisan made things. Playscale is much much harder to find. I have to custom order things in larger sizes from artists, and some aren't even willing to do anything besides the 1:12, so I adore Re-ment. It's the perfect size for many of my dolls. I hope they don't change.
And I think tarts made in even 1:3 scale can still be teeny and detailed. It's got more to do with the painting than the scale. If anything, you usually lose more detail when you go smaller because items get trickier to paint. It's just a trick of the eye that they might look better because they are so small. When held up close, even some of the older re-ment items don't look as pleasing. But when put into a scene or diorama, they are magic.
I shop artisan made for perfection with items; I try to be less fussy with re-ment because it photographs brilliantly and that matters more to me when it's just play items for use with my dolls (for me anyway).

I don't think the scale has really changed all that much. At least among the older and newer sets I have, the size varies a lot in both ends of the age spectrum... For example the copper pot from French Restaurant is the same size as the red bowl from the Chirashi set fron Yummy Meals, which is the same diameter as the bigger plates from the Witch's Invitation from Fairytale Tableware etc. So actually the pieces from French Restraurant would be newer *and* smaller scale... The Airline Meals were pretty small too.

Maybe after Megahouse went out of the minatures business Re-ment made the business decision to try and market their miniatures to two different sets of collectors: playscale (1:6) and dollhouse (1:12). That would kinda make sense as to why the scale within the same series is different from set to set. I happen to like the larger pieces, which is why I preferred Re-ment to Megahouse. Megahouse was detailed, which I loved, but always smaller.

hmm well I only collect rement even after all this time, I have a cabinet of it! And almost all of it is not 1/6 scale. But I am seriously turned off by the larger scale. It just seems like they are cheaping out anymore since they started the 8 sets/carton. Was that abuot the same time that the USA re-ment shut down? Anyways I think there may be
--less detail and care (therefore less realistic),
--less items per set, and less sets per carton. Price isn't reduced much.
--more Disney and Hello Kitty (selling brand names),
--more repetition.
I guess you could be right I need to look elsewhere for miniature miniatures even if their not blind boxes and not re-ment. I was hooked on re-ment becuase they are so collectable and quality, but like I said it feels too Barbie and cheezy lately. The latest candy shop was a huge disappointment primarily because of the scale *sad*
EDIT Megahouse shut down long before that I think?

I recently bought the ring pop set from Candy Shop and I could not believe how big everything was, not even 1/6 scale. The ring and bracelet are too big to fit most dolls, maybe they would fit some BJD's. It seriously put me off of buying new sets. I liked European Grandma because it was less cartoony and realistic like the older sets just a little larger, which is ok. But some of the magic is lost for me with recent Re-ment. I wish they would say what scale a release is if it's going to vary so drastically.

I once again state, that I don't mind that they make several scales. I would just really like it if they marked the boxes (and the sellers marked the listings) with what scale it is, so I know BEFORE I buy it. I've bought several sets in the past for my dollhouse, only to have them be too big!

I was also a bit dissapointed with the new candy shop series. Although a diehard fan so I love it in some ways, the quality wasnt quite as good as other sweet bits like the 'elegant sweet' series or the minature cakes. Even the new cake series due out soon/or out already perhaps, appears to be a bit more cartoonie.
I think so long as they still have a good selection of realistic mixed in with the cartoon type and the branded items then I can still be happy. Some of the candy sets are super cute like the pez and the jars of sweeties, and I'm glad I have them. If Re-ment turned over to nothing but Disney and bigger scale, I think I'd eventually loose some, if not most, of my interest in collecting on a large scale though. It would have to be only certain sets.
