Rajputs - The Rajput (from the Sanskrit tatpurusha compound rājaputra, "son of a king") are a ruling class of the Indian subcontinent and south east Asia. They ruled in the Indian sub-continent from the 6th to the 20th century and in south east Asia from the 9th to 15th centuries. At the time of the Partition of India in 1947, Rajputs ruled in the "overwhelming majority" of the princely states of Rajasthan and Saurashtra, where the largest number of princely states were found. Many Rajputs claim descent from Rama and Krishna.
