About Raising Awareness

Extreme poverty in the new millennium is unjust, and stupid. Education, poverty, health, environment, human rights or world peace: these issues all belong to same world - the one we share with the less fortunate. And they hit, just as we are reading this post.

These and other pressing issues must not be left to specialists or governments. Even if we have little time, even if we are not doctors, it is very likely that each one of us can make someone somewhere a much less desperate person. Whether we help out of altruism or far-sighted self-interest, it is worth stepping in right now.

Learning about the key issues, knowing the options, and telling others about it, is fundamental. This is the core of the Raising Awareness project, and a way to come up with another thousand ways to help.

See, read, take action. As simple as that. This is the concept behind Raising Awareness - both a project and an experiment. We want to marry our personal credos with technology to get more people galvanized and mobilized about the nonprofit world. We feel that nonprofit is not "marketed" appropriately, i.e. the dream and satisfaction of "doing good" is undersold.
Consumerist terms aside, how to explain that for some relief workers in the field working for an NGO is the only meaningful thing in life, while for the common person it is a luxury, sometimes superfluous item? Our feeling is that the images of nonprofit are not sharp enough, the messages not fresh/segmented/compelling enough, and the "path to action" too long or monolithic (often only "give give give").
