30 Sep 09 - Such beautiful, creative and diverse works of art! I stop by occasionally, but not often. This time I looked at the photos using the slide show feature. Beautiful! I highly recommend it. It's inspiring.

About RAG RUGS

"Rag rugs" are hand-made rugs made from cloth, cut or ripped into strips and hand braided or crocheted. Sometimes there is no design, totally random depending on what cloth is available, and sometimes the color scheme is beautifully orchestrated.

This was a craft I remember my grandmother doing when I was very young. I remember them on her kitchen and porch floor. My mother revived the tradition and I've given it a try too.

While I prefer cloth, it would be wrong to reject any similar rug made from recycled materiel. The basic idea, here, is:
+ hand-made (no commercially produced items)
+made from previously used fabric, plastic or ?
+the basic oval or round shape, (some variations okay)
+it's a rug

Please show us what you do and tell how you do it!

Thanks!

Jim
