About RAAF: Pt.Cook & Laverton, Victoria, Australia - From 1948-
Point Cook is the birthplace of the Air Force and oldest continually-operating military airfield in the world.
Laverton is the Air Force's third base (since 1925, just after RAAF Base Richmond outside Sydney).
The two bases were merged into one in 1999 and the Laverton airfield was sold off for suburban development (A sad loss). The main function of the Point Cook Base is some training and the RAAF Museum that is open to the public.
Public access to RAAF Bases is not generally permitted. All visitors must be signed in and wear their visitor's pass at all times, this includes the RAAF Museum at Point Cook, which you are welcome to visit.
From the period 1948, there were several RAAF areas, such as 21 (F) Squadron, Number 1 Aircraft Depot, ARDU, The RAAF Central Band, RAAF National Service Trainees, etc., stationed at Laverton or Point Cook, Victoria, the latter housed the RAAF College and Officers' Training School.
Today, Point Cook also houses the RAAF Museum. See: www.airforce.gov.au/RAAFmuseum/index.htm
All persons that had any connection with either Base are welcome to join this Group and add as many photos and other information recorded during their time in the RAAF.
I was a Citizen Air Force member of 21 (F) Squadron 1951-57 as a photographer.
