some long exposure waterfall shots

view profile

Jeff Howard  Pro User  says:

Spent a few hours yesterday shooting some waterfalls. Took a bunch of HDR shots with exposures ranging from 5-10 seconds. The HDR effect is a bit subtle but I'm really happy with how they turned out. Wasn't sure if it would give a weird effect to the water with all the motion involved, but if anything I think it enhanced the smooth look that the long exposure gives.

Here are two of my favourites from the day:

bokeh falls

and ...

falling down the steps

more photos from this series are on my photostream. feedback is welcome. thanks for looking.

Nice shots. I always find it kind of difficult to shoot HDR with a shallow DOF. Props to you for pulling it off.

I think he meant a MELTING look, lol

Seriously, beautiful. I would make it a canvas and hang it on my wall anyday.

Very unusual to see long exposures of wild places combined with shallow DoF. However you did it, well done for thinking of this approach!

Very nice. How did you bracket the long exposures?

Thanks.
@Kulu - appreciate the vote of confidence. am actually submitting it for one. fingers crossed it gets in, but a cover is probably wishful thinking.
@KidDocOne - If I remember correctly I think I went from -1 to +2 with even steps and then shot a few more with some longer exposures to add to the mix.
