About Ukrainian Easter Eggs - Pysanky

Ukrainian Easter Eggs are called "pysanky". Pysanka (pis'-ahn-kah) (singular) is a Ukrainian word meaning "an egg that has been written on." These beautifully hand decorated eggs were made using a wax resist process similar to batik, with brightly colored dyes and beeswax that is applied with a kistka. This ancient folk art has been handed down through the generations.

This photo group is set up specifically for pictures of PYSANKY that are created with real eggs using the wax-resist method. And dyes that are either non-edible or some folks make the dyes the old-fashioned way out of natural materials (paint or ink are not used on the egg shells) and beeswax (that is removed at the very end to reveal your designs - not left on the shell). All pysanky designs are welcome, traditional or contemporary. Please do contact the administrator of this group if you have questions before posting a photo. It will be greatly appreciated if these rules are honored; otherwise, sadly, the photo(s) will be removed.

It is a joy to share with you the beautiful art of pysanky.
