About Psychogeography Sheffield Branch
"the study of the precise laws and specific effects of the geographical environment, consciously organized or not, on the emotions and behavior of individuals" - Guy Debord
"Psychogeography - Sheffield Branch" is a group created with the aim of combining a number of themes:
- Urban Exploration
- Psychogeography
- Flaneurisme
- The Derive
We aim to explore and document the emotional response generated by Architecture and Geography, particularly that which is other; derelict, abandoned, forgotten, forbidden, unseen, undocumented. We're interested in people, and the way they unconciously interact with Architecture and Geography.
To take part in our little group, take the time (and nerve) to wander off your normal routes. If you regularly walk to work, set off ten minutes earlier and find a different route. Like Will Self, just go out and walk somewhere. Don't consciously think about what would make a picture - just record images, like a digital imaging free-association technique.
When you come across another's image, take the time to record your feelings, but don't worry about typing witty, erudite and incisive comments - you could just type two or three words that best summed up how you felt upon viewing that picture.
Although it's called the Sheffield Branch, in truth that's only because I (as the group's first administrator) am based here, and the aim is not to document only Sheffield; we welcome members and pictures from anywhere in the world.
