About Proteaceae
This is the place to post images of plants from the Proteaceae, the Protea family. This beautiful family includes some of the strangest and most beautiful flowers in the world. Here we seek to showcase this outstandingly photogenic group of plants through photography. All photos are welcome, including gardened specimens, plants from botanical gardens, and plants in the wild. Attatched information on any aspect of the plants' location, culture, and parentage, or any other pertinent or irrelavant information is a plus.
Hailing entirely from the southern hemisphere, they include plants mainly from South Africa, Chile, and Australia. They include the famous genera of Protea, Leucodendron, Banksia, and Grevillea, as well as many lesser known but equally beautiful genera including Telopea, Lomatia, Isopogon, Dryandra, and many many others. Also included in the Proteaceae are edible nuts, such as the Australian native Macadamia Nut, Macadamia integrifolia and the Chilean Avellana del Sur, Gevuina avellana.
