Hmmm. I'm not sure I understand. Guess I'll have to see how others interpret this challenge before trying it.

Yeah, I had to get used to the initial shock as well. I had a spot of language barrier trouble: hallway as in entrance/hall or as in corridor/passage? Luckily, the web is full of North American friends and I soon discovered I should go for the latter. Right?
I'm all up for it, though! It's cool.

Yes, I would interpret hallway as corridor/passage. Heh. Sometimes the most foreign languages are British English vs American English...
Sounds good! And I have an idea for next week's challenge...

hey guys,
OTBAB and i went back and forth on this a couple of times, so i think i have a decent understanding of what she is asking us to do. here's a direct quote from one of her emails, i think it explains the challenge idea in more detail:
"This will include freeway corridors, long city streets that have buildings on either side creating a hallway, I have the columbia river gorge which is like a hallway that a river and mountains created, alleys could be a possibility, anything that is "hallway like."
Photographs of the hallway in your home do not count.
These must be things that people would generally not consider to be a hallway......a valley, a sidewalk between existing buildings."
get it?
and yes, i agree, i think it would be best to stick with the tagging convention from previous challenges= 'weekthree-hallways', is perfect!

nils, I also have no 1:1 mapping to a german concept in my head , but I guess that just opens to 'creative interpretation' .. ;-)

Super!
Yeah, Peter, sometimes it's the little nuances that are hard. Not that one doesn't know the word or the context, but there are these little shifts in meaning that could make a world of difference.
In Dutch it would be 'hal' versus 'gang', German something like 'Portal' versus 'Korridor'? It's the second one we need ;-)
Cool trick: if you don't know the exact difference in nuance, do an image search. That often tells you what it is exactly.

Sounds like I have created quite the challenge. I hope it's not too difficult.
We need a button that will let us post in different languages. I did consider that momentarily when posting.
Thanks Nicolaonthepull for clarifying the goal of this challenge. I hope everyone has fun with this one. I know it’s a bit more difficult than the previous challenges, but I anticipate some cool photographs being taken.

Politely butting in here, let's remember why we all LOVE this community. There are guidelines for these challenges, but I try and avoid the word "rules."
I do hope we refrain from ever asking someone to remove an image because it doesn't follow the rules....if Stacya took a picture of her dog in the hallway because of the idea behind week three, I think it should be allowed to be on the thread. Yes, it's not a metaphorical hallway, but it's what she created from the inspiration of the challenge...
I am not an admin, so you can all take what I say and throw it down the drain, I just like to remind that the reason we started these challenges is to help inspire people to take pictures. whatever they may be. metaphorical or not.

Agreed Kim, I think Stacya was just being playful rather than vindictive! The metaphorical bit is really just an extra bit of challenge if you feel up to it.
Anyway - it's not our fault if Stacya isn't creative enough to get all metaphorical on us *pokes* :)

Maybe I was a little too creative.
I told Nicola that I had always wanted to make a coffee table book called "The Hallways of Portland." It would be comprised of familiar streets, freeways, the Columbia River Gorge, Willamette Valley ect..
Just me providing another perspective on the city.....Something probably only natives would enjoy.
I joined flickr for fun, but more for creative challenge as it is my desire to eventually become a known photographer.
Check out this chick.....she's self made over about 2-3 years and has a HUGE!!! following.

I think it works. A hallway is a connection or transition from one place to another, in its broadest terms. And the water is in transition several ways: from snow to ice to (eventually) water again; it is in transition from the roof to the ground (albeit frozen -- ha ha geddit? i slay myself -- in transit).
So it works for me. Although really, the notion of hallway can be expanded quite a bit if you use that sort of metaphor -- a handshake is a connection between two people, for example (yes, I considered taking a picture of that as well).

Here's mine:

I had some trouble with this challenge, and I'm not sure how much this counts... the easiest way I could find to think of this particular challenge was to focus on the idea of perspective. Maybe it's because I'm in library school, but this was what I came up with. I love how it turned out, and that's what these challenges should be about, right? Giving us ideas and finding new ways to look at everyday things. If you like the picture you ended up taking for the challenge, then you get an A+. : )

You should be able to edit or delete htat particular entry...? Yes, look at the little permalink at the end of your entry; for your entry (if you are signed in to your account) a little "edit" link should appear next to your entries which will allow you to edit. You should then be able to select all, clear, and paste the proper link...

This is a bridge over the White River on the Monon Trail in Indianapolis. The Monon is a "hallway" that runs through town, from 10th Street up to 96th Street, covering about 10.5 miles. It's one of the busiest urban greenways in the nation.
