About Project Challenge - CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE !
About Project Challenge:
In hopes of attracting photographers who are interested in getting out and taking new photos as well as broadening the range of the kinds of pictures they take, I started this challenge group. I would rather have a small number of active group members then a large number who don’t participate. So, to help achieve this each group member must submit at least one photo per month in order to continue group membership. The goal here is to create (and contribute) new work, and I look forward to new members – but first, please read the rules.
Project Challenge consists of a number of on-going photography projects (discussions) each in a different overall category (see below) similar to Trivial Pursuit. Group members submit new photos and eventually vote on a winner, who will then choose the next challenge related to that project’s category. Category themes and the number of categories may change as this group develops over time.
This challenge group was taken from the Five(ish) Project format which I am grateful to have been a part of. The beautiful thing about this type of group is that after it is launched, it is the group members that keep it going. I, along with other administrators will be a guiding hand so please feel free to contact us with any thoughts, ideas, or questions. I expect things will change (hopefully for the better) as we learn and move forward.
Project Categories:

Rules:
You must post at least one photo per month to a project in order to continue to be a member of this group.
You may post a photo to any project that is currently open, but the photo must be taken after that project has opened. To view the starting date of a project simply open the project thread and locate the "Originally Posted" date below the challenge title and instructions. There is no limit to the number of photos in a project, and you may enter as many projects as you want, but you may only post one photo per project. You may enter a photo in a project that you have opened, but you may only open a project if you have won the previous project in that category. When posting a photo to a project thread please choose medium size for your photo and number your photo for voting. See below for instructions on how to post your photo to a project.
Once voting begins photo submissions will no longer be accepted. You may vote for a photo in any project (whether or not you have entered a photo in that project) but you may not vote for your own photo. If there is a tie, voting will be extended for 12 hours and continue until the tie is broken. After you vote please check the post to insure accuracy as multiple votes at once can cause problems in a thread.
It is up to the group member who wins a project to: OPEN A NEW PROJECT for two weeks, START THE VOTING for 48 hours, and AWARD THE WINNER (see winning text below) who will post the winning photo in the group pool, and then open the next challenge in that project category within 24 hours. If a deadline is missed an administrator will step in on behalf of that group member. See instructions listed below on how to manage a project.
Please…
do not post a photo that was taken before that project has opened.
do not post more than one photo per project.
do not post a photo that you did not take or you do not have the rights to.
do not post a photo to the group pool unless you have been awarded a challenge.
do not vote for your own photo.
Basic computer manipulation of photos is allowed. This area can get complicated so I am going to simply say that adjustments to a photo are allowed to whatever degree you feel comfortable as a photographer, but adding new elements to what was originally captured is not.
All group members are expected to abide by the rules. Rules are subject to change. Any inappropriate material including racial, ethnic, religious, sexist, or other offensive postings or interaction will not be tolerated. Those who do not follow the rules or conduct themselves appropriately will be banned.
How to Post a Photo to a Project:
*Photos are posted to a discussion and not the group pool.
Click on the photo in your photostream.
Click on the down arrow at the end of the Action Bar
Highlight and copy the HTML/BBCode from the drop down menu
Choose medium image size of 500
Go to the PC group page and choose the Project discussion you wish to post to.
Paste the HTML into the discussion reply box at the bottom of the page.
Remember to number your photo (above the HTML text) before you post it.
How to Vote:
Let’s say there are six photo submissions in a project. If you are the first to vote and your choice is #4 your post would look like this:
#01:
#02:
#03:
#04:1
#05:
#06:
The next vote might look like this:
#01:
#02:1
#03:
#04:1
#05:
#06:
And the next like this:
#01:
#02:1
#03:
#04:1+2
#05:
#06:
And the next like this:
#01:
#02:1
#03:
#04:1+2+3
#05:
#06:
And it continues until voting closes.
How to Manage a Project:
It is up to the group member who wins a project to open and manage the next challenge in that project category. Here’s how:
Start a new project by choosing “post a new topic” and type in your project title in the “subject post” box. Please use the Project Title Format which is listed below. Your challenge should be open for two weeks from the date and time you post the project. Please enter the current hour of day followed by your time zone.
In the “your post” box please paste the groups Project Text which is listed below. If you have any special instructions about your challenge you may add it above the project text.
After the two-week time period has expired voting begins. To initiate this simply edit the title with VOTE and adjust the date and time to end 48 hours from when you re-post the project.
After the 48 hour voting time period has expired a winner is awarded. To do this simply edit the title awarding the winning group member (see Project Text below) and send the group member the winning text. If after the 48 hour time period there is a tie, edit the title with VOTING EXTENDED and adjust the date and time to end 12 hours from when you re-post the project.
Project Title Format:
(Project #) (Challenge Title) (OPEN) (Until: Date, Time, Your Time Zone)
(Project #) (Challenge Title) (VOTE or VOTING EXTENDED) (Until: Date, Time, Your Time Zone)
(Project #) (Challenge Title) (AWARDED TO:) (Group Member)
We Are Global
Project Challenge is proud to be a global group with members from around the world.
When creating a challenge please be inclusive of those in different regions of the world. Remember, when it is winter for you, it is summer for someone else. A project called "Summer Flowers" might be simply titled "Flowers". Please also be considerate regarding holidays and events in your local calendar that may not be applicable globally. The point is not to limit your challenge potential, but to open up the creative possibilities to more people.
