About Portraits & Context (Stories Behind the Photos)
This group is for the documentarians and storytellers out there in flickrland.
The concept here is that for each portrait posted in the pool there will be a (factual) story (i.e. context) accompanying the photo. So if a viewer looks through the pool and sees a portrait that looks interesting, they can click on the photo and get a story/commentary that goes along with it... that is, the viewer gets an introduction to the subject and scene and/or insight into what was going through the photographer's mind.
Look to answer at least a few of the following questions: who is the subject? are they a stranger, friend, acquaintance? what are they doing? where is the photo taken? why did the photographer choose the subject, background, etc...? if it's a stranger, what was meeting them like? what is else is going on in the photo? what was the photographer doing when they took the photo (e.g. travel, wandering, at home)? is the photo part of project (e.g. 100 Strangers Project) was the photographer trying a new technique or imitating a style?
NOTE: No one is grading for grammar, prose, etc... This is really substance over form. It's all about the story... a documentary of a moment caught in a frame.
Also, feel free to post additional photos of the subject (e.g. outtakes, another angle, etc...) as a comment to your original post. Especially if it adds to the story.
Photos posted with no context will be deleted from the pool. No exceptions. Portraits may be posed or candid, but if you post a candid please be sure to give the story around why you took the shot, where you were, who the person is, what you were trying to capture... were you successful, etc...
