Okay I found that the manual on orphancameras.com does give some clues. It isn't exactly my model but it sounds similar enough. Apparently it is 1.2m from lens to subject's eyes.
And I found that it took a picture without a battery. None needed.

Nothing like going through a whole pack of film to figure out a camera. W00t

Yup, it's 1.2m unless you have the extension lenses then it's 1.9m. There's a tape measure under the main body that pulls out which is marked at 1.2m and 1.9m.
The viewfinder is very straightforward, no focussing marks etc., you just centre the headshot.
I have the 202, 402 and 403.

Tape measure! I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have one.. unless there was an ultra-secret compartment I couldn't find... Thanks for the correction.
You are right about 1.2m. I mis-remembered from my session using it.

I feel like a gigantic idiot. I even packed a separate tape measure so I could take those two portraits. Ha.
