About Thich Nhat Hanh and Greater Plum Village Sangha

This flickr group is a place for the sangha (community of practice) to collect and share photographs of mindfulness practice in the tradition of the Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (affectionately referred to as "Thay," which means "teacher" in Vietnamese). This includes photos of mindfulness practice and sangha (community of practice) from Plum Village Monastery (France), associated practice centers (Blue Cliff and Deer Park in USA, European Institute of Applied Buddhism in Germany, etc), and images of the monastic sangha, Order of Interbeing, and other lay sanghas practicing in this tradition from all over the world.

Please post photos and discussion that relates to mindfulness practice, practice centers, and sangha, in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village Sangha. With deep respect and humility, we ask that submissions to the group pool be directly related to practice in the Thich Nhat Hanh/Plum Village tradition specifically. The spirit of focusing the scope of the group on one tradition is not to promote division or sectarianism, or to disrespect other spiritual and religious practices or traditions. However, there are many other (wonderful) forums for material on other traditions, or simply on meditation or spirituality more generally.

In Living Buddha, Living Christ, Thich Nhat Hanh writes, "For dialogue to be fruitful, we need to live deeply our own tradition and, at the same time, listen deeply to others. Through the practice of deep looking and deep listening, we become free, able to see the beauty and values in our own and others' tradition." The spirit of creating this space, focused on the Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village tradition, is not to exclude other traditions--but rather, to offer the sangha an opportunity to look deeply and live deeply this tradition.

By sharing images of our practice, we can nourish ourselves and each other in our practice to live fully in the present moment, and bring peace to ourselves, peace to the world.

This group is purely unofficial, and is not formally connected to, or endorsed by, Thich Nhat Hanh, Plum Village, or the Unified Buddhist Church.
