I didn't go for artistic. I just went for stronger:

Does that fit in the challenge?

Wananga, this is probably what I would have done myself... just not as well. Now you've left me no choice. I'll have to make him a rabbit or something. Sigh.

Hey Guys!! You guys are deadly creative guys and I am convinced that Photoshopping (for that matter all those deadly graphic tools out there) can really make a big big difference. The first 2, I can hardly make out (except for faint remains of the face).
This pic is that of my son and I am sure my son will love all of them and feel really proud of himself!! Thanks Guys!
Now what I will do is wait for a few more days and some more entries to come by and then may be we could go for Vote for the best!! I can request the admin guys to put the max voted one on the home page of the Group.
Thanks and Good Luck!! Keep pouring!!

Personally I think wananga has done an excellent job in reproducing perfect skin tones and working with the natural light in the image. Less but good production does make the image stronger and you don't need a lot of PS effects. This is just my opinion.

I haven't used Photoshop, but Paintshop pro 9, hope that counts too ;)
Just a simple, quick try to get the portrait out of center and changed the colors a bit.

first post your image to your flickr stream. then open it and click on ALL SIZES. from the available sizes, pick one that would fit in the screen - the best bet is MEDIUM or SMALL. when the smaller picture appears, scroll down to the "copy paste this html...." box appears. copy everything in that box. go to the group, thread, discussion you would like to reply to and paste to the comment box.

I have just found a nice filter (old photo) in Gimp that I am sort of crazy about just now so I had to test it on this image...

Thanks very much. For those interested in technical detail, the head was adjusted for brightness, contrast and sharpness, then isolated and put on a larger background of same color as the hair. Then use of the 'watercolor' filter and further contrast adjustment. Finally, softening bright edges.
