About Pietà
"A pietà (pl. same; Italian for compassion) is an artwork depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Christ. As such, it is a particular form of the devotional theme of Our Lady of Sorrows." (from Wikipedia)
This is by no means a religious group. Lately I have found myself taking a lot of pictures in roman-catholic churches. I'm not a religious person. Not at all. In fact: I'm an atheist. But somehow these places keep drawing me inside. Maybe it's the strong symbolism and the unusual quietness of these places that attracts me...
However, there's a Pietà in every roman-catholic church and I find it particularly interesting to compare the different artists interpretations of the subject. The expression in Marys face, the humiliated body of the Christ ... There are so many historic, regional and cultural influences on the depiction of the Pietà and I'd like to invite everyone to post their pictures into this group.
