SF buckaroo says:

thought i would share a technique i have used in picasa to good effect.

playing with the tuning bars (all of them) I can often get the background to totally disappear leaving the subject against a white backdrop. the photo below is one of my more popular, and it was done this way. has anybody else discovered this technique?

here's another example, also taken at the beach (it helps to have a fairly blank background to begin with):

Sometimes using the Glow tool will do that, but not as nicely as this way. These look great. I'm going to figure it out. Is there a sort of step-by-step method?

SF buckaroo says:

Start by pushing Fill, Highlight and Shadow all the way to the right. The screen will probably go blank. Then, slowly move each one back to see what happens. Push it back to the right, and try the next one. You get a different effect depending on which bar you are using.

These are awesome images from Picasa2. I've been using Picasa2 for about a year now and had actually started my own group but closed it down due to lack of interest.
I just joined this group after finding it.

Strong Highlight settings as well as use of the Color Picker feature can provide all sorts of results as seen in this example:

And then filtering to black and white brings back some of the detail here:

Used a little graduated tint to make the upper part - street lights - have a bit more density. Without that, the lamps were too washed out.
