About PhotoWalkthrough

Welcome to the PhotoWalkthrough group. This group is for viewers of the PhotoWalkthrough.com video podcast.

You are invited to post your work here for comment and critique by other members. You are especially encouraged to post anything you've created especially if it was the result of watching the PhotoWalkthrough video tutorials.

Your group administrators are Adiemus, the other Martin Taylor, mgrat and me, John Arnold.

Assignments

If you've joined this group then you might also want to join the "pw_assignments" group. We have regular assignments on the show and that's where you should submit your assignments entries. I try and display as many of the assignment submissions as possible on the show.

Your images used on the show

Also please be aware that I often pick images from THIS group to illustrate techniques or composition styles on the show. So don't be surprised if you find one of your images that you submitted here turning up on the show!

Note: By submitting your images to this group or the pw_assignments group you are implicitly giving your permission for them to be displayed on the show.

Improve your photography by giving critique

When submitting your images to the pool please seriously consider adding notes to your image telling us something about it. This really adds interest and value to each shot by giving it a context. You can also take the opportunity there to say what level of critique you're hoping for. And if you're really keen to improve your photography there is no better way than by giving and receiving critique. Especially giving critique forces you to think about what's good and bad in a shot. So please consider commenting on a couple of other photos in the pool when you submit.

RIA - Rip it apart

Here at PhotoWalkthrough we encourage you to critique the work of the other members, especially those who have used the term " RIA " meaning - Rip It Apart - in the title, or description or have used it as a tag.

When you see an RIA picture you are encouraged to REALLY tell the photographer what you think in a polite and constructive but also frank and honest way. Please make sure that whatever critique you provide uses family friendly language and is constructive, so the photographer can learn from the process. We don't learn from a solitary "I don't like it" comment, but we can improve if you explain what you didn't like.

So when you're commenting on a picture - positively or otherwise try to say not just that you liked or disliked it, but give a short explanation of why.

We learn so much here in this group by giving good honest critique as well as receiving it, and have really seen the value of the RIA term. We would like to promote this tool to all members, new and current.

so when you comment, comment like you mean it !

Copyright

1. Photoshopping someone else's work with their permission is a useful, education and creative thing to do. We should continue to do so when the original photographer requests it.

2. When you edit someone else's photograph it remains the property of the original photographer. Even if you did lots of work on it they were generously providing you source material that YOU can learn from by post processing it. Respect their generosity and don't allow others to believe the photograph is yours.

3. You should never ever post your edited versions of someone else's photograph to any group except the one where the original photographer requested others to edit their image. So, for example, if you're editing a photo posted to the PhotoWalkthrough group then you may ONLY add your version of that image to the PhotoWalkthrough group.

4. Any time you're uploading edited versions of someone else's photo to Flickr you should *always* credit the original photographer in the image description, perferably with a link to the original OR a link to the group discussion where they asked for people to edit their image.

Thanks for joining in!

Photography offers endless opportunities for us to learn and improve our abilities. Joining in with a community like this one will help you learn from others and from yourself by learning to critique, forcing you to think about what you like and dislike.

Enjoy the group and please, by all means mail me here on flickr or at photowalkthrough@gmail.com with comments, suggestions or questions.

John
