August Photowalking

AvarieRiot [deleted] says:

Hey everyone:

I volunteered to host August's photowalking, in Ogden. The date to plan on is August 16th in the evening. The trax line now runs all the way up to 25th street, so those of you SLC'ers can ride the commuter rail up... or drive. Price is about equal, but the train is a bit more enjoyable, plus gives photo ops. :)

Maybe everyone could meet up and ride together?

We will plan on meeting at Union Station (the trax dropoff) in the main lobby at 5:30. Does that work for everyone?

What is the subject of the photowalk once we are there? Will it be to shoot the union station or continue on to something else?

For lunch you might try the City Club. 264 Historic 25th Street. I've only eaten there once, years ago, but I remember it having excellent food. Lots of Beatles memorabilia. Just a heads-up: I looked up their web site, and it is a private club, though you can get a two-week membership for $5. Roosters, however, is always a great place. No memberships and the food is very good. 253 Historic 25th Street.

I'm going to try real hard to make this one. The train sounds like a fun ride.

Wonder if it will be running back to SLC later in the evening? Guess I should find out.

@Ed_P just bring your gear. Look for the crowd of people with tripods. It will be VERY informal and generally a lot of fun. People keep coming back, so it must be fun. Then post your shots, make (nice) comments on the shots others take that you like.

Simple, free, fun-that's our slogan.

I want to make it to this one buy like Freddy, it hits the anniversary...

I did however make it to the Union Station in Ogden. This place is sooo cool! I want to go back as I am unhappy with some of the angles I got on some of the trains. Here is a photo that I applied some old processing style for decorating our little boys room (trains and automobiles theme...

Union Pacific

I put regular photos from the station on my blog link.

25th street has some real cool stuff going as well. If you are on the fence about going, I hope I helped push you over!

Ooh, I am so torn about this one, it falls on the same night as the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival's "Balloon Glow" up in Eden. It starts @ 9:30, and I would hate to miss out after seeing some of the pictures taken last year. I may just hang out for an hour or two if this is planned to be an all-evening thing, 'k? Hope it turns out to be cool!

Rory Wallwork says:

I'm definitely planning on going to both. If those those of us going to the Balloon Festival have to leave the photo walk early, then so be it. I wouldn't want to miss out on the balloon glow either!

Anyone else planning on going to the Balloon Festival?

Glad to hear so many are going! :D (makes me nervous too LOL) In regards to good eats in that area, there is the Athenian which is killer greek food. Yum! The Marriot has a restaurant on 25th and any of the others on 25th are good too. City club is awesome; again, like mentioned a private club. Roosters is a classic; and that sushi restaurant - I can't recall the name either - is on the north side of 25th street. so just walk down 25th from the station and you will have a million choices!

See you next week!

If anybody is taking FrontRunner from downtown SLC, the annual Italian street festival, "Ferragosto", is taking place in front of the Rio Grande depot on Saturday. It's about 2 blocks east of the downtown transit hub, and it runs from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It should be possible to get there before or after the train ride to the photowalk if you budget enough time.

It's as close to the wedding scene in The Godfather as you're ever likely to see in Utah. Here's more information: www.italianinutah.com/Ferragosto/Ferragosto.htm

A rigid 5:30 start time might be a bit tight for people riding up from SLC on FrontRunner. It arrives in Ogden at 5:23 and it's a 1/2 mile walk to Union Station. Probably want to hang around until 5:45 or so to let people show up.

I'm pretty sure Frontrunner lets off about 2 blocks above Union Station. From the opening ceremony I seem to remember the bus terminals between 24th and 23rd, with the whole parking lot running from Union Station to 23rd and Wall. Either way the only factor to walking should be the heat.

I'm sorry to miss this! I'm new to the group and would love to get more involved this fall, but have been spread pretty thin this summer. On the 16th, my husband and I will be at the Davis County fair, seeing how many ribbons he's won for his canning. ;) I will hope to meet up with you all at a future event.

My husband I just walked thru the area, and we found out that the Xterra after party will be going on that evening as well, so I'm sure we'll lose some people to that! :D
