I've got a question...
To view the images in the contest does it mean that "we" (the 1599 people in this group), need to register for an account on Michael's web site to be able to see the images?

Thanks Michael for kicking off a new PFRE Idol contest.
I want to thank Michael for all his work setting up the two pages he refers to above. These pages simplify submission of photos, provide a way to accept larger numbers of entrants and provide registered voting.
It's probably worth highlighting the wording in the rules that talks about the fact that all submitted photos will be marked with a PFRE Idol contest copyright notice. This is to discourage people from stealing your images... we are not claiming any rights to entrants photos.
Also. notice the "Void where prohibited by law..." statement. More specifically what this means is that if you live in the state of Rhode Island this contest is void.. RI has it's own quite restrictive law regarding contests. Countries other than the US may also have laws prohibiting contests. This contest is void in all those counties. It's up to you to know if it's prohibited in your country.

as jyearwoo said, can past winners summit again? another doubt, since it's anonymus, i guess you can't upload to the photostream the picture you sumitted in the contest, right?

I have a couple questions:
1. Can we submit photos that we've previously submitted to the PFRE Flickr Phot Discussion Group?
2. Do we just submit 1 photo total, or will this be similar to the July Idol contest where the participants submitted a specific type of shot each week?
3. If it is just 1 photo, is there any preference between interior or exterior? (If not, hopefully people won't just vote for the interior ones. Even though interior lighting is more tricky, I think they should both be considered evenly)

My take on this/suggestions: Preferably keep the submitted picture unknown, until the results, when everybody will know who did it.
If the same picture is in the photo stream or was posted in the past, ppl will know who the author is. The main idea of anonymous image is to offer unbiased opinions about the picture, and not associated by a person we may like/dislike.
@ Coastal. This contest will make you shoot better! New Stuff!
@BGreenfield. 1. I think I already answered on that. 2. One Picture / participant... So make it a Good One! 3. No preference ... is photographers choice of what he/she thinks is the best of him for the month. Voters will decide then what was cool and what not that cool, because i assume we will get awesome images

No, you only need to register to cast vote... if you want... Voter Registration doesn't make you user on my website. You just register yourself to make your vote count... if you wanna vote.
1. Images are Submitted and then displayed (11 August 2008) in this thread....

Hopefully everything will go smoothly... can't envision problems by now, but... who knows, surprises appear all the time. So, any caught irregularities will be corrected. time will show where the problems are. Right now... we are in good shape I guess

A great looking set of images! For those of you that don't already have it installed piclens for flickr is a great browser plug-in to view these with. You can get a copy of it at www.piclens.com/. It allows you to look at these 8 images in a large slide show format.
Here's an interesting exercise: How many of the photographers for these images can you identify just from the visual style?

Sh*t! Those are some great images. I have no idea which ones to vote for.
I think the only way I could identify some of the shooters is based on the architecture and geography in the shot. Image #2 looks an awful lot like a bathroom I might find "down under." Image #4 surely was not taken in the Northwest US!

I think it's impossible to tell who took any of these. Aaron is right that you can take a guess depending on the view, but there are lot's of very good photographers in this group.
I think I may be able to identify one of the photographers above, but it's really the view and the composition that leads me to my guess.
