About Ars ImitariThe art of imitation---a Flickr group dedicated to emulating the style of a well-known photographer or replicating a famous photograph. The main object here is to learn how to be better photographers ourselves by copying the masters. If you add your image to the group, please include the name of the photographer or identify the photo you are imitating. Ideally you would add notes as to your technique and an "ars imitari" tag. Richard Avedon, Martin Schoeller, Irving Penn, Andreas Gursky, Annie Leibovitz, Ansel Adams, Joe McNally, Diane Arbus, Gregory Heisler, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Peter Yang, George Hurrell, John Keatley, Margaret Bourke-White, Dan Winters, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Jay Maisel, Elliott Erwitt, Olaf Blecker, Robert Frank, Helmut Newton, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Philippe Halsman, Josef Sudek, Lee Friedlander, Paul Strand, William Eggleston, Imogen Cunningham, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Dorothea Lange, and so on... Ars Imitari is NOT a group for the following images: * homages to other forms of art, like painting, television, or movies * general faux vintage (e.g. photos put through a digital aging application, unless it is trying to imitate a specific photographer's style) * general categorical styles (e.g. "Hollywood" style. Either copy an actual photo or try to imitate a specific Hollywood photographer, like George Hurrell). * drastic reinterpretations (e.g. using Lego figures) The admins reserve the right to remove any images from the pool that violate these conditions. |
