12 Feb 08 - Phalaborwa is situated in the Valley of the great Olifants river. It is often referred to as "the town of two summers" because it never gets really cold with its mild winters. Thus the chosen picture for the Group Icon: the reflection of the setting sun in the Olifants river who runs past the town, like two suns warming up the African bush. When standing on the banks of the Olifants river, looking at the last rays of the sun, one cannot help but stand in awe of the Creator of all this beauty.

About Phalaborwa
This group is all about the lovely town of Phalaborwa, situated in the Limpopo province in South-Africa.
The name "Ba-Phalaborwa" was given to the area by the ancient tribes who moved here many centuries ago, it is a Sotho word which means "better than the South". The town itself was established in 1957 and today large scale mining of phosphates, copper and other minerals takes place here.
With its unspoiled wide open spaces dotted with Mopani, Marula and Leadwood trees; scattered granite hills; a great variety of wildlife and birds; not to mention its friendly inhabitants - Phalaborwa will creep easily into your heart as it did into mine.
Feel free to post your pictures of the nature scenes and places in and around Phalaborwa. Phalaborwa borders on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park. Pictures of birds and game sighted in the wonderful Kruger National Park area close to Phalaborwa are also welcome, they too give an idea of life in this unique Bushveld town.
