About "Funky P" JCPenney (1963-1971)

Anything related to the J.C. Penney Company spanning from 1963-1971; including hardlines such as Penncrest.

The "Funky P" logo, as it is unofficially called, was introduced alongside J.C. Penney Co.'s rapid expansion into suburban shopping malls in 1963. It was phased out beginning in 1971, when founder James Cash Penney died, and the company changed its name back in his honor.

By the 1980s, most of the stores built in the "Funky P" era had swapped signage for the still-current Helvetica logo. 40 years after the change, only a few traces of the "Funky P" still survive.
