About Pascua Lama Mine - Stop The Destruction

A multinational company wants to exploit the Valle de San Felix, where the purest water in Chile runs from 2 rivers, fed by 2 glaciers. This company wants to mine under the glaciers to extract huge deposits of gold, silver and other minerals.

In order to get at these, it would be necessary to destroy the glaciers - something never conceived of in the history of the world - and to make 2 huge holes, each as big as a whole mountain, one for extraction and one for the mine's rubbish tip.

The project is called PASCUA LAMA. The company is called Barrick Gold. The Chilean Government has approved the project to start this year, 2006. The only reason it hasn't started yet is because the farmers have got a temporary stay of execution.

If they destroy the glaciers, they will not just destroy the source of especially pure water, but they will permanently contaminate the 2 rivers so they will never again be fit for human or animal consumption because of the use of cyanide and sulphuric acid in the
extraction process.

Every last gram of gold will go abroad to the multinational company and not one will be left with the people whose land it is. They will only be left with the poisoned water and the resulting illnesses.

The farmers have been fighting a long time for their land, but have been forbidden to make a TV appeal by a ban from the Ministry of the Interior. Their only hope now of putting brakes on this project is to get help from international justice. The world must know what is happening in Chile. Una compañía multinacional quiere explotar el valle de San Félix, donde el agua más pura de chile corre por 2 rios, alimentados por 2 glaciares. La idea es excavar bajo los glaciares para extraer grandes depositos de oro, plata y otros minerales.

Para ello, es necesario destruir los dos glaciares, algo nunca antes concebido en la historia del mundo, y hacer 2 gigantescos perforaciones, cada uno del tamaño de una montaña, uno para la extraccion y otro para depositar los desechos.

El proyecto se llama Pascua Lama. La compañia es Barrick gold. El gobierno chileno ha aprobado el inicio del proyecto para 2006. el unico motivo por el cual no ha empezado aun es por acciones legales de los habitantes de la zona.

Si se destruyen los glaciares, no solo se destruira, esta fuente de agua especialemtne pura, sino que se contaminaran permanentemente los dos rios, por lo tanto no serviran para el consumo humano nunca mas, producto del cianido de acido sulfurico, utilizado en el proceso de extraccion.

Cada gramo de oro sera para la compañia y nada para los habitantes de la zona. a ellos solo les quedará agua envenenada y las enfermedades resultantes.

Los granjeros han peleado por largo tiempo por su tierra, pero el gobierno ha impedido apariciones por TV mediante el ministerio del interior. La unica esperanza para ellos, es conseguir ayuda de la justicia internacional.
