About Parks Australia

Welcome!

Parks Australia is a group made to capture Australia's amazing biodiversity and landscapes through images taken in our National Parks and the thousands of reserves which form the National Reserve System.

When adding images to this group please make sure you put which reserve/park you took the photo as well as names of flora/fauna if you know its name!

Commonwealth Parks and Reserves work to enhance, protect and promote Australia's natural and cultural environment in harmony with the nation's social and economic goals.

The Director of National Parks assists the Minister and the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts in the conservation and appreciation of Australia's biological diversity and associated cultural heritage, through leadership and cooperation in the management of Commonwealth parks and reserves.

These include areas located on Australian island territories and in Commonwealth waters.

Parks and reserves included are:

# Christmas Island National Park
# Kakadu National Park
# Pulu (Keeling) National Park (Cocos (Keeling) Islands)
# Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park
# Australian National Botanic Gardens
# Booderee National Park which includes a Botanic Gardens zone, based at Jervis Bay, NSW
# Norfolk Island National Park and Botanic Garden

There are eleven national parks and reserves in the Australian Alps that cross State and Territory borders. These parks and reserves are collectively known as the
Australian Alps national parks

Commonwealth marine protected areas.
