I think we should all post reviews and experiences of visiting various shops from where we procure our photography related equipment and gear as well as availability and prices that are being offered.

This would help all of our community. Beginners and novices like myself are quite vulnerable to rip offs and this would help us all.

Secondly those who live in distant places and cannot make frequent visits to places like Nisbet road would be grateful by having time and effort saving if we go all the way there only to find that the things are not available.. (imagine spending two thousand on fuel and two hours only to find that the filter that you want is "short in market" and coming back empty handed.)

Phone numbers and contact details of reputed sellers would also be welcome here as well as reviews and product availablity.

Thanks..

P.S Where is a good place to buy a SB-600 flash?

Whenever u visit Beware of Super Photos

You can find pretty good sellers like Billu Photos, AY Digital and occasionally Photo Crown (Mutahir). I will also update the phone nos of these guys in a while.

little expensive but fair Mr. Ejaz kiyani aka global photos (Canon outlet holder).

Max Loxton Posted 15 years ago
yes, if you are looking for exclusive, Brand new warranted Canon stuff then there is no match to Mr. Ejaz Kiyani.. I think the best person in the whole nisbat road for any purchase.

And Super Photos, I wish if I could do something with this guy, they sale, purchase and deal all things based on lie. And if you happen to be in their shop, beware of the items they quote as "display pieces".. which means anything that has been used for a period of time and now is available for sale after minutely cleaning.
I did my first job at Super Fotos in 1992 as computer operator and I know them very well, Mr. Aqeel still working there on the new shop in front of Mie Lado Mosque used to clean all old stuff to make it brand new (anda piece, this was the terms used for the cameras) and (now) Haji sb (Naeem) sold it as new so they are not reliable at all.
Yousaf Niazi Posted 15 years ago
I had some experience with Billu Photos and AY Digital for used and new stuff. I found them reliable sellers especially Mr. Ishtiaq popularly known as Billu Bhai.
On my second purchase, Billu let me go with Canon 350D without any payment, any guarantee and without knowing my address in Mianwali. He trusted me and now I trust him.

Super fotos - Ditto to above fellas.
Naeem and his son due to too much jhoot and 2 numbree seems to be disorganized.

Few months back I saw same price tag on 8GB and 4GB sandisk extreme III cards. and yes it was authentic Sandisk, I bought one myself (8GB at 4GB price) and did all sorts of testing and it was original sandisk indeed. So sometimes it is worth visiting Super fotos. Aur kuch nahin to babaji ke darshan hojate hain.

Photo crown -
This guy Mutahir is a very sky-high akroo type of person. Always stuck on his chair like if someone will come and swarm over it. His sales men are nice though. This shop is no different than Super fotos but If you are after distinct stuff and dont care about authenticity then give Photo crown a check.

Billu Photos -
Relatively better than above two. Has return policy which worries me.
The proprietor Ishtiaq Ahmed is a straight forward type of man and may sound rude but he is alright. Personally I would use this shop for pre-ordering the stuff that my preferred shop Global photos would be unable to avail for me.

Global photos (my preferred one) - 042 37221511
This is mainly for Canon products. They were official distributors for Canon under brand name of GEMCO until MBM took over them. Now they got sub-distribution ship of Canon for Lahore region. The proprietor Ejaz Kiani is a wonderful person. A bit of chat and his customary Kashmiri tea (only in winters) makes me stop foremost at his shop whenever i visit Nisbat road.

Super foto best ho sakta hay ager woh apni harkatain chor day.
MHMalik18 Posted 15 years ago
Thank you all for the heads up. I was about to go to Super Photos... Thank God I asked for your kind opinions..

Does Billu photos deal in Nikon or Canon>?

Also, do Camtronx sell directly or are they just the distributors?

What about Nikon stuff? Which one would you nice gentlemen recommend?
MHMalik18 Posted 15 years ago
I went to super photos to ask about canon authorised dealer..

The Baba jee there said all Canon sold here are "do number" and they are all grey products with no real warranty.

So even though I had gone to the market to get a Canon I ended up with a Nikon.. (someone else told me Nikon lenses are cheaper than canons.. and I being totally ignorant.. put 2 and 2 together and got a Nikon.. but no regrets there :) )

But why are most shopkeepers like this.. same is the case with cell phones, computers, hall road and many others.. why cant they talk straight?

Another funny story.. I asked for a Manfrotto monopod from some shops that sell tripods etc.. and they would all start laughing.. "manfrotto... hahaha... yeh kya fazool naam hai.. aap china wala dekhain".. (this would weigh a ton).. and "aap kis tv channel mai kaam kerte hain??" I dont know what the connection between monopod and tv channels is.

Max Loxton Posted 15 years ago
because TV channels normally go for good tripods/monopods..

HAHA :)

This is so FUNNY how you guys are discussing shop owners... :) Especially how SayDirect has done his research work.. LOLzzzz !!
SayDirect [Farrukh Pitafi] Posted 15 years ago
@MHMalik18
Super enterprises / Camtronix is the Nikon distributor / outlet and I think he is elder brother of legendary Super fotos babaji. This is why babaji sells Nikon more than Canon. I'm not fully sure though.

Photo Crown is the place from where you can get good lights, they have local made lights as well as Indian Lights. But there are a couple of more shops that have lighting equipment, I will check and will inform.
ahmadwaleed1 Posted 15 years ago
Is it reasonable to buy local light???? i heard they dunt last long?

My cousin who is a retired professional photographer in the U.S., briefly moved back to Lahore. He had been Naeem's customer since Naeem was a teenager. Many of you out here were not even born then. Well he buys an Olympus flash from Naeem, and Naeem sells him a used one. He returns it, and the replacement Naeem gives him after a few days is the same flash re-packaged! What a low-life! Many of the expensive items these guys sell are damaged goods. There is, for example, a 24-70mm 2.8 Nikkor out there, that a dubious pro from Islamabad (Mr Z) dropped and damaged, probably got it repaired by Razi, and then sold it off in Nisbat Road. I feel really sorry for whoever buys it. Naeem and the owner of Super Enterprises are brothers, reportedly.

good discussion
MHMalik18 Posted 15 years ago
So there is only one dealer of Nikon in Pakistan and he sells defective products? wonderful... just wonderful..

I was recommended by someone living in lhr to go to Global fotos. and yes I've heard the fraud nature of super fotos too. Canon's official outlet in khi is selling 600D 18-55mm kit for 90,500 PKR right now, as in september 2011 but someone told me it is 68K in Global fotos lhr. Does anyone know anything about this? coz I live in quetta and am visiting khi next month and lhr in february. was planning to buy from khi but now that there's such a huge difference i would have to wait till feb. so if anyone can confirm whether it's true or not, it would be appreciated. thanks. and yes is the same number is in use by Global?
Karim-Khan Posted 14 years ago
Any idea where I can get extension tubes and an intervalometer for canon 550d in Lahore, as I am visiting for a couple of days.
admin
Max Loxton Posted 14 years ago
@Zahra ... I think the Karachi people are selling 600D for quite a high price, or are u sure it is with 18-55 or 18-135. The 18-55 would be around 70k or more. Do check the price from Global Photos and give my reference if you need to. He will surely give a better price.

its an added firmware which works parallel to the normal one ...
it remains on ur memory card so u dnt have to worry about it
it gives u features like

enables pic in pic 2x zoom feature so u can compose ur scene with precise focus point close up as a small pic
upto 9 pics with selectable ev values (0.5, 1, 2) to compose an HDR (max 9 pics)
gives to complete control over the audio levels and disables ACG which is most annoying feature of 550 while recording videos
bulb mode upto 480minutes shutter lock

Also gives/unlocks REMOTE TRIGGER CONTROL
using Motion Detection

I have had good experience with Super Fotos. The only thing which annoys you sometimes is they get on your case and push you into buying stuff by offering free delivery :-D Bought a flash from them, used in mint condition. No regrets there..... BTW, the guy i dealt with is "Naeem".....
msgill59 Posted 14 years ago
Interesting posts & informatory too. Unfortunately, we do not have competitive market and flow of dollars like abroad. Secondly out let/adda/shop is earning who so ever is sitting there. Lack of communication and decency is also a problem. So I always asked this community to get telephone book of all vendors/shops owners throughout pakistan so that one may know the prices in metropolitan cities and will also solve the problems living in remote areas. If any seller is not showing decency, selling repaired stuff boycott him as I did about three to four shops on Nisbot road because everyone is sitting there for money which one earned with lot of efforts. If one has lot of customers we have lot of sellers.
