About OTW Test Group
Whether you live in the desert, on the beach or somewhere in between, what happens On the Water affects your daily life. We want to know HOW.
On May 22nd, 2009, the National Museum of American History opened a new exhibition entitled, On the Water: Stories from Maritime America that explores…..[enter description here]Visit the online version of the exhibition to learn more.
This Flickr group is dedicated to collecting the images and descriptions of maritme activities across the United States of America. Maritime activity is[our definition of maritime activity] but the impacts of these activities are far reaching. The foods you eat, the products you buy, where you live work and play are all impacted by maritime activity.
Instructions:
1)Take a photo that represents a maritime activity that affects your or your community (see ideas below)
2)Upload the photo to Flickr
3)Map your photo using Flickr maps
4)Add the photo to the On the Water Flickr Group
You can explore the map with everyone’s contributions within the OTW group or by visiting[insert link to NMAH site w/embedded map].
Ideas:
Home
Where do the foods you eat and the products you buy come from? Did they come to you by boat? Did they originate in the water (fish, salt[need better examples])? [I’d like to include something about power generation and water here…is that too far afield?]
Work
Do you or someone you know have a job involving maritime activity? Fishing, shipping, transport, dock work, ship building, and marine sciences are all On the Water jobs.
Play
Do you enjoy recreational boating or fishing, sunbathing on the beach, snorkeling, diving or water exploration? Have you taken a cruise, tour boat ride, or rafted down rapids?
Travel
Do you commute by ferry or other water craft? Did you or someone you know immigrate to this country via boat?
[Title TBD]
[I want to include a category that encourages people to look at the influence maritime activity has had on the on historical development of their community – e.g. San Fransisco]
