About Other Visions
This group's mission is to highlight quality images taken in ways that the human eye and ordinary photography cannot show us, showcasing unusual and offbeat imaging techniques which one might not commonly find elsewhere and the truth about our world they reveal.
Examples of compliant material might be:
-Schlieren images
-Thermal-incandescence ("heat") infrared images
-Chronochromic images
-Kirlian images
-Sub-100-microsecond exposures of rapidly moving or transient phenomena
-Polarization micrographs
-Full-color pure infrared images (three infrared bands)
-Photograms and other lensless images
-Electron micrographs
-Simulations of animal vision (if credible)
-X-ray and gamma-ray images (but NO medical X-rays unless they have unusual aesthetic appeal!)
-Diffractograms
-Narrow-band filter photographs such as in hydrogen or calcium light
-Exposures longer than 3 hours
Images whose unusual appearance results merely or primarily from what is done to the image after the fact (digitally or otherwise) are not appropriate here. Images should reflect some essential truth about what was recorded at the time of exposure, what was actually in front of the camera (if there is one.)
In addition, the following genres are not in and of themselves unusual enough to warrant submission here, or already have enough groups devoted to them:
-Ordinary near-infrared photography
-UV-induced fluorescence ("black light") photography
-Ordinary optical photomicrography
-Pinhole images
-Medical X-ray images
-Images with ordinary colored filters
-Exposure times between 100 microseconds and 3 hours
Videos are permissible ONLY if the submission depicts an interesting aspect of the subject's motion which would not be casually visible to the naked eye or ordinary movie cameras.
-Post-processing is OK within reasonable bounds, but please, no fakery or computer-generated abstractions.
